Chrono Trigger
Complete Strategy Guide and walkthrough.
Version 1.11
After you get out of bed, go down and pester your mother (in the game, not in real
life). You should get 200 G for your troubles. Go outside and go to the mayor's manor.
Inside get lots of treasure. Talk to the old fart for good advice and some gold.
Now go to the fair. Play the games if you like, but when you're done goofing off,
talk to everyone for clues. That's good advice in every RPG. You'll find out stuff
that will affect you later. Skip the shops until you reach the Middle Ages. Head
up when you're done. You'll bump into a girl. Talk to her first, pick up her pendant,
and give it back to her. Then she'll join you. Go left. Don't eat the man's lunch
(The pink bag). Everything you do now will affect you in the trial later. Go to the
cat and talk to it once. It will follow you around. Take it to the little girl on
the far right and Marle (The girl you bumped into earlier; yeah, she's still following
you around) will admire Crono. Go below and talk to people again. The old shopkeeper
will try to buy Marle's pendent. Say no. When Lucca's invention is ready, go up.
Marle will buy some candy. Don't rush her. Just wait there until she's ready. Go
up and talk to Lucca. Try her invention as many times as you want, but talk to Marle
when you're done acting like a fool. She'll try the machine and get teleported to
the next century (Well, the last 4 centuries anyway). Touch the pendent when you're
ready to go after her.
In 600 A.D., you'll land and fight 3 Blue imps. I thought they were supposed to be
cute. Oh well. Use attack and go left when you win. Follow the maze and hit the treasure
chests on your way out. You'll get a Tonic and a PowerGlove. Equip the glove and
leave. At the town, hit every house for clues and don't forget the shops. Buy what
you need and go to the woods. To the left you'll find a Power Tab (The shiny thing;
The other one hides a weak enemy.) Leave this maze upward. At the castle, once you're
cleared by the guards, explore. Open every chest you could and talk to everyone you
see. At the top, you'll reach the queen who is really Marle. Just when the conversation
gets interesting, she disappears. When you get downstairs, meet Lucca. She'll give
you information that Marle is really the princess. It falls to you to save her. Go
to the chapel, stocked up on Tonic. Go in and get that shiny thing on the ground.
The people will turn into Naga-Ette. They're pretty easy, but if your energy gets
too low, don't hesitate to use tonic. After you win, 1 more will appear, but it will
die shortly. A Frog saved your life. Join him. Frog, as he is called, is powerful
at this stage of play. Play the organ to advance. Inside, open every chest and try
to avoid combats, but you need to fight some enemies to get stronger. In the main
hall, tackle the left side first. In the first door, open the chests and try to find
a hidden one. If you find it, you can use it later for a speed tab. Fight the enemies
that come when you get the hidden chest (Use Tech abilities) and leave. The next
door has two prisoners (To open this door, pull the switch on the left side of the
spikes). Talk to them. In the pot in this room there is a Power Tab. Get it. Leave
and try the doors on the other side. One door is a bar where a bunch of creatures
are taking a break. Talk to them to learn the real plot behind the kidnaping. It
turns out that Yakra is disguising enemies as humans. They will also mention a statue
of Magus, the arcane wizard behind the war. This is no House of God, as you probably
figured out by now. Leave and follow the Diablos up to the next room. Ah! Queen Leene.
now you can leave. Not yet. Talk to them and try to leave. All 3 will turn into Gnashers.
Fight them with Lucca's Flame Toss. after you win, walk through the center of the
right wall to get to the hidden room of Magus. The demons here are in worship of
their great leader. Get the treasures up front and talk to the demons for a fight.
Once again, Lucca's Flame Toss is the missile in your arsenal at this point. Leave
as you did and head to the central staircase. Fight the enemies here and go through.
A save point is to your left. Use it and a shelter to recharge your hit points and
magic.
This section is made up of one giant room that has a passage in the center and staircases
to the sides. Skip the center for now and head left. Get a Shelter right before you
go down the staircase. The stairs will collapse when you step on them. Head to the
door. Talk to and fight the Hench for experience. Head up. Don't pull the switch
here because it will summon 2 more bats to fight. Skip it. In the next room 3 Henches
and a Bat will try to end your game. Use the Double Tech. Fire Whirl to beat the
Henches and use Slurp Cut to beat the bat. To use Double Techniques, have both characters'
(In this case, Lucca and Chrono) meters fill up and Destroy them easily. The chests
ahead contain Tonic and Heal, the former will heal H. P. and the latter will heal
status changes (Ex: Poison and Chaos) during a battle. Continue right. When you get
to the switch in the small corridor, hit it and the spikes will disappear. Head up
the stairs and to the center room. After the fight (Use Flame Whirl and Slurp Cut)
get the Iron Sword from the chest (Frog can use it) and play the organ to advance.
A door should appear where you got the Tonic and the Heal out of the chests. Head
back there and go through the door that suddenly appeared. On the other side of the
bridge (Use Flame Whirl against any opponents you meet), use the save point and a
Shelter. Make sure you save this time. Go through the door. On the other side, you'll
find Queen Leene and the Chancellor. Or so you think. After the Queen clears out,
the Chancellor will turn into Yakra. The first boss is a formidable opponent with
an abundance of Hit Points and some brutal combat techniques. Use Double Techniques
to get more damage in before he counterattacks. X-Strike works well, causing 150
Hit Points damage each time. Have Lucca use Flame toss to get the maximum damage
for her and have her heal the party if your energy gets too low. After you win, open
the left chest for the real Chancellor and the right one for Mid-Ether. Talk to the
Queen to get a free ride to the Castle. At the castle, Frog will leave for now. Return
to the spot where Marle disappeared and she will return at the same spot. Go to the
dining room to recharge and leave. Frog will leave too. You'll encounter him later
when you go after Magus. Return to the time gate in Truce Canyon and return to the
present time.
Now Lucca heads home and you should head to the Castle in modern times. Go right
to get a power tab. And head up to the castle. Instead of a warm welcome, you'll
be accused of terrorism and kidnaping. Despite what Marle has to say, you'll be thrown
on trial. Even if you were good and did everything you were supposed to at the fair,
you'll still be thrown into prison. The Chancellor even makes up lies that Chrono
will be executed and at last, you'll be in a dungeon. In the cell, use the cup to
recharge your energy and get the pink sack, which contains Ether. Save you game.
This is a pretty easy section, but the boss is really tough. But more on that later.
To escape, pester the guards until they let you out. Knock out the guard that comes
in and fight the remaining guard (Use the Fight command; they're too easy.) Then
Leave. Go up the stairs (Ignore the treasure chest in the other room. There's no
way to get it from where you are.) and down the next pair. Remember the 2 Shields
in this room! Down in the dungeon, you can fight the guard or knock him out by sneaking
up behind him and hitting him over the head. The latter might get you a Mid-Tonic.
The room here contains 2 Mid-Tonics and 2 Ethers. Get them, but use them later. Now
backtrack up the stairs to the 2 Shields you saw on your way down here. You'll fight
an Omnicrone on your way. Use basic techniques and a Tonic if he hits you. The shields
will easily fall if you wait for them to peek at you, then nail 'em. On the north
side of the stairs, head left to fight a Decendent. Like most creatures here, a few
hits with the sword will terminate him. Head the other way (right) and fight the
2 guards on the bridge. (The sound effects here came out of Final Fantasy III and
are fantastic.) In the next screen, sneak up on the guard and knock him out to get
a Mid-Tonic. Fight the next guard (The lower path on your screen) and open the cell
door. The guy in here begs for your help; Free him from his prison and he'll help
you later. Go in the room north and get the item from the chest. Also in here are
2 Decendants. Use Cyclone and Slash if you have it. Leave and take the upper passage.
Sneak up on the guard for a Mid-Tonic. Go left all the way across the bridge and
past the Shields. Get a Shelter from the chest (The other cell contains a dead body.
Ignore it) and head back to the Shields you just passed. Fight them in the same way.
Head left on the upper stairs and open the cells here. The first one contains nothing,
but the second one contains your passage outside. Climb downward when the platform
ends and go into the opening. Get a Shelter and head down the sewer hole. This contains
a lot of gold and a Lode Sword. Climb back out and head back up to the Shields (They're
still there even after death. Yikes!!!) Ignore them and head up the right stairs
and out to freedom. Not yet. Fight the 2 Guards and go to the next room. The warden
gets frightened off and winds up knocked out by, who else, Lucca. She'll join you.
A save point appears. First inspect the body for 5 Mid-Tonics. Hurrah! Then use a
shelter and the save point. Use it. Make sure of it. Read the manual for help with
your next enemy, the Dragon Tank. It seems that the head is powerful and not affected
by most of your attacks. The Dragon Tank is on the bridge. Until now, you had it
easy. But look what the Chancellor hit you with. A NUCLEAR MISSILE!! Destroy the
head using non-fire or non-lightning attacks and keep your energy high. After the
head goes, use Fire Whirl against the rest of the tank. After you win (If you do!!!),
leave the castle. The soldiers have you cornered. Go right to escape them. Oh no!
A dead end. But what's this? A timegate. You have no choice. Take it and escape.
The Timegate leads you to the year 2300 A. D.
What a dump. Leave where you materialize. Go South to the Trann Dome. Talk to the
lady when you walk in and say yes to her question about money. Do some major shopping.
Sell your old weapons for money. Stay at the Electron for a recharge. You'll find
out that food is to the east. Your next stop is Lab 16. Save before you enter. Beware
the rats here. They have the nasty habit of stealing Tonics from your inventory.
Don't even go near them. Go right to the wall and get the Berserker (avoid the rat
here). This should be saved because it makes character go on autoplay and you have
no control over them. Head left and up. Fight the enemies here with your normal fighting
commands. Don't forget the chest with the Lode Sword in it. Even though you have
it, you can sell it later. Also, get the Lode Bow. The maze is pretty easy. In the
second part of Lab 16, fight the Shadows with Flame Toss and Slash. Nothing else
will hurt them. The Mutants are also tough. Use advanced techniques against them
and don't spare Tech. Points. Once out, head to the Arris Dome. When you reach the
people, Use the electron to recharge. The people seemed shocked to see you alive.
Sell your extra goods to the girl in the back and use the save point. Buy some Tonics
before you head down. When you go down, you'll hear some hype about a Guard to the
food center. Well, follow the maze to the top and you'll find a rat. Talk to the
statue for advice. Once you reach the top, an alarm will sound and the Guardian and
2 Bits will crash down. A Very tough boss, the Guardian will make the Dragon Tank
seem like an imp. Knock out the 2 Bits first, then attack the Guardian. When the
bits are restored, destroy them again. Only attack the Guardian when his bits are
destroyed. When they appear again, concentrate on them again. After your victory,
go north. The refrigerator has failed. Get the Mid-Ether from the chest and get the
note from the dead man. Time to play tag. Chase the rat through the maze and get
its password, Hold |L| and |R| and press |A| to open the door. You still need to
grab the mouse even if you know the password already. In the new sector, stay on
the lower level, then after you get the chest, go back and up the left side stairs.
The rats here can be fought if you need experience. The maze is pretty easy. Think
of the next room as a maze with easy turns. Opponents are somewhat challenging, but
they're worth it if you want to reach a new level. The Buggers will attack they're
own kind, but if they hit you, expect a lot of damage. The computer in back will
give you info on your next destination, Proto Dome. And also the end of the world.
It turns out that Lavos, a behemoth of a creature, is responsible for this destruction.
Now the real plot begins. Head out and back to the people. With the seed, you've
given them hope and Doan, the keeper of Arris Dome, has given you a bike key. Good
Job! Head to Lab 32 now. Skip Sewer Access for now, you'll be back much later in
the game. In Lab 32, get a Mid Tonic from the chest and up north, robots will come
out to maul you. But the fight didn't even begin yet when Johnny, "The Man",
comes out and challenges you to a race. Decline if you want, but the lab contains
a grand total of 8 Mutants and 5 Shadows, without items. Take the race and if you
lose, try again. The best way to win is by using a Turbo Boost right before the finish
line. Now head for Proto Dome. Inside, you'll meet some heavy resistance. Destroy
them all and head for the back. A beat up robot is here. Lucca will repair it and
the creature, named Robo, will come to life. He's your next ally. Powerful with laser
weapons, he's a very powerful ally indeed. But it appears that you're out of luck.
The door to the gate won't open. S%#t, man! But Robo has the answer: Go up to the
factory and turn on the generator. Go to it immediately. Leave Marle behind for now
since she's the weakest one right now. Inside, activate the computer and fight the
Acid. Use normal attacks for now. Head through the conveyer belt and fight the robots
that try to challenge you. Head to the right elevator first. When you get off, go
left to the open door and go right as far as you can go to get a Mid-Ether. Now head
down the bottommost staircase (the left one) to get the Robin Bow. Backtrack to head
down more. Try not to hit the robots on the conveyer belt so you can get some valuable
treasure. More than likely, you'll get nabbed by the crane. Fight all robots here
with powerful Tech. and Double Tech. abilities. When you get off, head down. Fight
the bugs here easily and head up. On the other side of the metal bridge, get a Mid-Tonic
and head in the door near the chest. Get 400 G and a Mid-Ether and leave quickly
before the robots become active. The other door contains an Ether and a Shelter.
The codes for the cranes are |B,B| and |X,A|. This will move the barrels, allowing
you to get some treasure. Head back across the metal bridge and back to where you
first got off the conveyer belt. Avoid the robots here. When you get off, (Past the
Ether) go up the stairs and back down the far left ones again (Near the open door).
Go left to get a Bolt Sword and the combination to the lock (|X,A,B, and Y|) from
the computer. You're work on this floor is done. Head up the elevator and down the
one on the other side. Save your game here after you use a Shelter. As you probably
discovered, your older Techniques are not as effective anymore. You'll have to use
the newer ones, or just pick fight and save your magic. And don't fail to use Ether
when you're M. P. runs out, or you'll have a hell of a time trying to get through
this sector. Go up through the door. Fight the Alkaline and the Acid on the computer.
Winning causes the computer to turn and a hatch opens. Go down it. In the next room,
fight the Alkaline and, down and left, fight your enemies. Go in the door and get
a Hammer Arm and a Titan Vest in the 2 chests here. Access the computer here to knock
out the laser guards and fight the Acid because of it. Go down the elevator here
and head up. Get the Plasma Gun here and unlock the door using |X,A,B, and Y|. Flick
the switch and escape. But what's this? It's Robo's brothers! But this isn't a family
reunion. The Robots kick the crap out of Robo and you have to fight them 2 on 6.
No problem! Use your most powerful attacks and use Mid-Tonic if you need it. When
you win, you'll carry Robo's parts back to Proto Dome and repair him. Now the gate
is ready. Robo will come with you. But what's happening to the gate? It don't look
right.
You'll emerge in a strange place. Go to the old man here. You're at the End of Time.
The old man gives wise advice to you. You can never travel in groups greater than
3. Pick Robo to stay for now. Now go to the pillars and back to the old man (Just
head to the pillars until the old man calls you back). Go up. The Master of War-
Spekkio- is here. Follow his instructions very carefully to gain the power of magic.
Any new party member should meet with Spekkio before any serious adventure. Don't
bother with Robo; he can't use any magic, but his weapons will inflict Shadow. Chrono's
Lightning, Marle's Water (And so is Frog, when he comes back) and Lucca's Fire. Don't
practice, because you'll be blown out early. Save at the save point and use the flashing
light here to recharge for free. With magic, you now have another weapon to use against
your enemies. Time to head for the pillars of light where you materialized. Skip
65,000,000 B. C. for now and head for your own time. It's good to be back!
You'll come out of a closet of a house owned by two imps. They'll tell you that nobody
here is nice to humans. Leave the cottage and explore the village. (The pyramid up
north is useful later, but just skip it for now; you need something to activate the
entrance.)
Of course, they're will be fights in the shops. If you win, the prices of the goods
here will be ridiculous. Just fight the creatures and forget about the shops. Try
to find the Magic Tab in the mayor's house (2nd floor) and the Speed Tab (1st floor).
When you leave, go to the lone house. The old shopkeeper at the fair is here. His
name is Melchior. Buy and sell some of your weapons to him and leave. He'll tell
you to go through the cave up north to get back to Truce village. That's your next
quest. Go to it. Save before you enter. This part is tough and the enemies don't
seem to react to anything besides magic. The Henches at the door should present no
problem because you beat them at the chapel about 5 levels back.
The cave itself is really a pathway. You only have to make a choice about where you
go once, and you'll hit them both eventually. Use nothing but magic. When you reach
the Tempurites, beat them and head down. Fight the Roly-Polys here and the Cave Bats
to get a Magic Scarf, which boosts your magic by 2. Go back to where you fought the
Tempurites and head left. All the chests here contain Ether and Mid-Ether. After
your fights, head down and left. You'll eventually reach a save point. Use it, because
the boss is next. Head up to fight Heckran. The master of the cave has about 2,000
H. P. and a deadly Water attack. Start off with all magic. Antipode works well. When
he taunts you, don't attack him until the message bar says he needs a break. Heal
at that time and when he lowers his counterattack, nail him with Antipode and Lightning.
A victory earns a trip back to Truce. Go into Lucca's house and talk to Lara, Lucca's
Mom, and then Taban, Who will give you a Taban Vest for Lucca. Go to Chrono's house
to introduce Robo if you want to, and then go to the shop. The owner's son was the
kid you saved in the castle dungeon and he will reward you heavily. Now go to the
timegate in the Square.
Save your game and call on Robo to make his presence known. Replace him with Marle
and head to 600 A. D.
Trouble has aroused here. The king has been wounded and the troops are fighting a
losing battle on Zenan Bridge. Go to the troops to find out that their food has run
out. Go to the castle next and explore again. Get a Power Tab and Some Jerky to feed
the troops. When they offer, fight the troops on the bridge. Talk to the Knight Captain
before you fight for a Gold Helmet. Now go to it. Ozzie, Magus's top general, will
also fight you. Ignore him and fight the Deceased first (Magic works well here).
Then hit Ozzie and he'll run (smart fellow... or whatever he is). Do this for a few
battles and Ozzie will make a boss appear. This boss, at the end of the bridge, is
Zombor a 2 part terror. Destroy the lower part first with magic, then attack his
head with normal attacks. Use Robo's cure beam often to stay alive. When you win,
go to the nearest town, Dorino. The Market has items. Buy some Revive and go to the
houses. One of them will be packed. This house has a Magic Tab, which the owner will
give you for the treasure you found in the Cathedral. Trade it now because it's worthless
from here on. Don't stay at the inn here because it's expensive. Head instead to
the village to the south. On the way, you'll pass by Fiona's Villa. The Chests contain
2 Mid-Ethers and Fiona will tell you what war has done to her briefly.
Porre Village is next. Head there and go to the market. Buy 4 Gold Suits and 2 Berets
(Sell some stuff if you need more gold). Don't forget the Power Tab on the Floor.
Equip and go to the inn. Cash in there and leave. Go to Tata's house. It is rumored
that he's the legendary hero and he headed to Denardo Mts. That's you're next location.
The enterance is north and east. The other 2 Locations are as follows: Magic Cave,
which is off limits for now, and Cursed Woods. You'll find Frog here. He is saddened
that he is not the hero and he will not rejoin your party yet. Don't worry about
him for now. Head to Denardo Mountains. You may have heard a tip about the enemies
here; Huge Goblins with hammers. Burn their hammers and they're easy to deal with.
Save outside the enterance and head in.
Inside, attack the enemies with Rocket Punch. Attack the goblins after with regular
attacks and the Ogan with fire first before you attack. Head up the ladder and then
down the ledge for a Revive. then go up and get the Ether. Fight the Free Lancer
with normal attacks and you already know how to defeat the Ogans. Keep going up.
The Goblin and Ogan guard a chest worth 500 G. Go right now. You'll eventually reach
the shaded area and a few Free Lancers. Go up when you get the chance to get a Mid-Ether.
Then go up to get Revive and a Gold Helmet (With a few combats, of course). Try to
go off course for treasure. Go up the waterfall ahead and go right. Head up and left
to get to the sunny part again. Fight all resistance (There will be a lot) and head
left again. Head down the waterfall (On the far left side) to get a Silver Stud and
a Silver Earing (Equip immediately) and exit by going up. You're back at the spot
where you fought the Bellbird and the Free Lancers. Instead of going down the waterfall
again, head up and left. Fight the Free Lancers and the Bellbirds. Then talk to the
guy looking at the world. After the 4th time, he'll get mad and give you a Magic
Tab to go away. Good for you. Now head down and right to a save point. Save and use
a Shelter. Get a Mid Ether from the chest and go on. You'll eventually reach the
boss. Or do you? The Masamune is up on the ledge and so are 2 kids. Once you try
to get the Masamune these 2 troublemakers will transform into 2 bosses. Defeat only
one. Then they will combine to form a very big boss. He's very tough and not in the
best of moods right now. Fire works. So does Robo Tackle. Chrono can use his Slash
when he starts storing tornado energy. After a while, you'll come out the winner
(or many, many tries).
After you win, you'll get the broken Masamune sword. Masa and Mune, the bosses, will
take you back to the map automatically. Head to Tata's house and he'll admit that
he's not the hero and hand over the Hero's Medal. Now head to the Cursed Woods. Get
a Mid Tonic and a Shelter from the chests. Go down to Frog's house. It's under the
bush on top. Approach it from the top to go down a hidden ladder. The chest contains
the Masamune Hilt and a MagicScarf. The Hilt has a name on it: Melchior. That guy
in Medina Village has the potential to fix the sword. Head to the end of time from
the gate at Truce Canyon and head to the gate that leads to Medina Village. It turns
out that you need some Dreamstone to fix the sword. Guess where you're going; the
Stone Age. Head there right away. But first, use the save point at the End of Time.
As soon as you land, you will be attacked by a lot of Reptites. Robo and Lucca's
fire punch works wonders, and Chrono should use his normal attacks here. After that,
you're out of luck. Surrounded by lots of Reptites, it looks like the vacation to
Prehistory is very deadly. But wait... who's that? That's Ayla, the superhuman cavegirl
coming to save your pitiful ass. That lessens the enemies to just 4. Use the same
things against them as before. After you win, Ayla will introduce herself and lead
you to the village called Ioka. Follow the path, avoiding all combats unless you
can't. Use Lightning and see results fast. In the village, see all the huts for hints
and trade. You can buy potions (Tonic, Mid Tonic, and Heal), and learn about trading.
The locals don't use money, they use items won in combat. Petal, Fang, Horn, and
Feathers are used and, according to the chieftain of trade "Bring any 3 of 2
items for trade". Go to the chief's hut to see Ayla and go to a party. Talk
to Ayla to find out the deal: She fights a reptile named Azala because he's against
all of humanity. Now she challenges you for the Dreamstone. Just keep pressing |A|
as fast as you can to gulp down the soup. When you win, you will get the Dreamstone
and pass out (Which leads me to one conclusion; the soup was alcoholic and everyone
got drunk off of it) You will wake up the next morning. You will discover that the
Gate Key is missing. That means that you can't use the Time Gates anymore. You must
get that key back. Go to Ayla and wake her up. She will join you and help you find
the Gate Key. Who you drop is your choice; if you are out of healing supplies, then
take Robo and his healing abilities (Or Marle if you want to). If you have enough
supplies, take Lucca. I'll assume you use Robo. Now go to the Forest Maze and find
Kino, Ayla's uhh..., well, I'll just call him her boyfriend. He's a little jealous
of you because you got a party and he didn't. He took the key and ran off. But the
Reptiles jumped him (Nice way to end a hangover from the night before! What was in
that soup?). Save outside and go through the forest. The maze is very complicated.
Even I still have trouble with it and I beat the game about 30 times. Just look for
a path and fight all opposition. The enemies here hate Lightning. Use it as your
main weapon. After you find your way out, you'll go to the Reptile Layer. This is
their secondary base (The main one is after Magus's castle and far off from now just
in case you wanted to know). The best weapons are Lightning (Lightning2 if you have
it, but I didn't when I was playing), Fight, and Ayla's Techniques (They kick ass,
especially Rollo Kick). Another rule is that if you avoid combat, you'll have a lot
more strength to take on Nizbel. Speaking of Nizbel, you'll reach him eventually
if you fall down the right holes. The big gray dinosaur (not to be confused with
Barney. Don't try to hug Nizbel; he'll run over you.) has about 4,000 H. P. and is
hard to damage. Use Lightning to weaken him and deliver a death blow. Use Ayla to
your full advantage with Rollo Kick and Kiss to restore health. Don't use magic on
him besides Lightning. After the battle, you'll encounter Azala. He has the gate
key and will not fight you after what you just did to his pet. You'll get the key
back and return to the village. It's time for Magus. Ayla will stay back in the stone
age for now. But she'll be in your party sooner or later. And besides, you have Frog
back into your party. Now head for the trading hut and get some items. Here are the
items:
3 Petals-3 Horns: Sage Bow
3 Petals-3 Fangs: Ruby Gun
3 Petals-3 Feathers: Stone Arm
3 Fangs-3 Horns: Flint Edge
3 Fangs-3 Feathers: Ruby Vest
3 Horns-3 Feathers: Rock Helmet
After you're done, go back to the End of Time and back to Medina village in 1000
A.D. Go to Melchior and get the Masamune repaired. Now go back to the End of Time
and go to the Middle Ages.
Not much has changed here. Bring the sword to Frog and he'll invite you to stay at
his place. During the night you'll see a flashback of Frog and the great knight Cyrus.
They will get the Hero Medal back from a big frog (Nirvana Strike. Cool!!) and, unfortunately,
Cyrus will be killed by Magus and Ozzie. Now you must seek revenge! Take Lucca with
you and take Frog to the End of Time for some magic. Water is very valuable against
Magus. After you get what you need, head to the Magic Cave to get to Magus's Castle.
Save before you enter the cave and save again before you enter the great castle.
(By the way, it seems that the programmers of Chrono Trigger gave away what music
to listen to while you play. Not only did you use a Nirvana strike, but Magus's top
general is named Ozzie, an possible reference to Ozzy Osbourne, and Ozzie's henchman
are Slash {Guitarist for Guns and Roses} and Flea {from Red Hot Chili Peppers}. After
messing around with this aspect, I found out that the music bands listed do fit in
very well with the music.) The bat that descends on you is Flea. She is very small
and you won't really notice her until you fight her much later on.(But I'm getting
ahead of myself; ignore the bat until you fight her in Magus's Fort). Fight all enemies
in the Magic Cave with, of course, magic. The Lair itself is huge. Go in and walk
around. Waddya know. Empty! Nobody home except the villagers and... What? Villagers?
This is some kind of sick joke. Explore both hallways and see some familiar faces.
Chrono's mother, Lucca's Dad, and some kids who act like they're stoned. After you
explore both hallways (The chests contain Mid Ether and Shelters), go back to the
entrance for what looks like a Save Point. But when you step on it enemies appear.
The first enemy, Ozzie, will tell you about what you have to face. Wonderful. Over
100 creatures that want to turn you into ground meat. You face the first 5. Use Fire
or Napalm on the Hench and Spincut on the Vamps. That rule applies to any other Hench
or Vamps here. You can choose your destiny from here. You can either fight Slash
(Left Door) or Flea (Right Door). I'll start with Flea.
The kids want you to play with them. Unfortunately, they will turn into Shadows.
One Slash from Chrono should ruin their day. The chest contains Barrier, which cuts
magic damage by 1/3. Keep going. Lucca's Dad will turn into 5 enemies. The new one
here is Sorcerer. Use a spincut here. The queen will turn into the same, and so will
Chrono's mom. The Boss will be someone supposed to be Flea. The only offense he'll
put up is MP Buster. After he's gone, The bat will turn into Flea. This is a very
hard boss. She'll use Waltz of the Wind to cause chaos to your members. Use the Heal
item to cure. Fire Sword works, but most of the time you'll be healing. After you
win (It might take you a few times), Save with a Shelter outside the castle and them
go back in. Now go in the left side (You could reverse the order you fight the bosses
in; in that case, head right). There are 2 Omnicrones and some Decendents with each
one, but you can walk right past them. Fight them if you want, but the real enemy
is Slash. After you fight the 5 Decendents in his room, the big man appears. X-Strike
will hit him hard. Spincut works well also. Slurp Cut is a must for Frog, and Fire
Sword is another Double Tech. that works. Keep it up and Slash will pull out his
big blade, The Slasher (Fitting name, don't you think!?). Keep it up, and heal when
needed to win. After the victory save your game, recover using a Shelter, and head
out to the main hall again. You should have gotten the Slasher after you won agaist
Slash. Equip it right away and step on the teleporter (They are identical to a Save
Point) to be instantly transported to another part of the Castle. Be prepared for
a long fight with Henches (Use normal attacks), Grimalkins (Normal Attack), and Sorcerers
(Don't use magic; Techniques will work, though). Ozzie will be waiting for you at
the end and will try to call Flea and Slash to destroy you. Fortunately, they are
unavailble for a while thanks to you. Ozzie will flee right away. Get the Mist Robe
from the chest before you follow him. In the next room, my what a trap Ozzie has
set up for you, Don't let the Axes hit you or else... Hold the run button down and
try to start as the Axe is being raised. The 2 Chests here contain Dark Mail and
a DoomFinger. DoomFinger is for Robo and the Dark Mail should be equipped on Crono.
The next room here is a vertical maze. Head up, trying to avoid combat. Avoid the
Polys here because they can get you into unwanter combats. If you run into one, the
new enemy here is the Juggler. Use what his shield is not defending; if he has magic
defense on, use a Normal Attack and vice versa. And if you use Fire when he has his
Physical Defense on, you kill him instantly! The easiest way to avoid the Polys is
to climb down the ladders when they get near. The next room has Ozzie in it. He will
drop you into a pit where 6 Decendents are waiting for you. Drop them and try the
Save Points. Actually, there are 3 kinds of Glowing lights down here, 1 is the save
point, 1 is the teleporter, and the other few are enemies. They have no name, but
we'll call them the Save Monsters. Use normal attacks and you will earn lots of experience.
And you'll need it against Magus. The chests here contain Lapis, which gives 200
H.P. to your entire party, a Barrier, which cuts magic damage done to you, and a
Mid-Ether and a Shelter. And on the bottom, there is a Magic Tab waiting for you.
Now try your luck with the room, Every time you fall, fight back to the top. Eventually,
you'll make it out and Ozzie will flee again.
The next room is another one of those side scrolling wonders, but now the Polys are
Kamikazes, they'll kill themselves and damage you in the process, the Outlaws (the
bird people) should be dealt with last because they get other enemies in the counterattack
process, causing more big damage, and finally, the Jugglars are back. Advance forward
the same way you did before and you should eventuall reach the top.
In the next room, you'll encounter enemies from the elevated platforms here. New
to the bunch are Groupies (Water and Ice work well). Of course, Ozzie is controlling
the elevators and as soon as you beat on his henchmen, he'll run as usual. Get a
Speed Belt from the chest here. Now follow Ozzie. You'll go through YET ANOTHER!!!!
series of battles. The new enemy here is Flunky (Fire will ruin his day). The rest
are common to the castle and should give you little problems. The end chest contains
a Revive. Now head up to the next room. Ozzie. Finally, we meet in battle. He's right,
though. No attack will hurt him while he's in his barrier. Instead, try hitting other
places, like the cranes. You'll beat him in no time like that. The 2 chests contain
a MagicScarf and a Mist Robe. A save point (to the right) and a teleporter (to the
left) will appear. SAVE!!! If you don't, you're done for. Now head down the steps
and into Magus' room. He will be summoning Lavos, but will be happy to beat the living
crap out of you. This is the Halfway point of the game. After this, more thing begin
to show involving Lavos. But now you have buisness. The key to beating Magus is to
take down his magic with the Masamune. Then pay attention to the attack he uses on
you. Use the same type of magic on him to inflict damage. After a few dozen rounds
of combat, he'll pull out some new techniques like a Barrier and the destroying missle,
Dark Matter. If he uses it on you, heal quickly. You can hit him with normal attacks
after he uses that on you. Beat him up and you'll discover that Magus doesn't want
to use Lavos to take over the world, but instead Magus wants to kill Lavos. But now
a huge Time Gate will appear and you'll be sucked in to 65,000,000 B. C. Crono will
have a dream where Marle is his wife and Crono has no job and is very lazy. Welcome
back to the Prehistoric age. After you wake up, you'll discover that Magus was sucked
into another Time Period, and that the hidden village of Laruba has been burnt by
the Reptiles. Ayla talks with the chief and now decides to head to the Dactyl Nest.
So should you.
This guide will now be continued with less text and more help on the hard parts that
follow:
- The Dactyl Nests are your next stop. But head to the hunting grounds so you can
replenish your stock of Prehistoric items. The new list is as follows:
3 Petals- 3 Fangs: Dream Gun
3 Petals- 3 Horns: Dream Bow
3 Petals- 3 Feathers: Magma Hand
3 Fangs- 3 Horns: Aeon Blade
3 Fangs- 3 Feathers: Ruby Vest
3 Horns- 3 Feathers: Rock Helmet
Stock up and head out on your journey
- Speaking of the Dactyl Nest, the enemies are no real challenge. Just make it up
to the top and meet Ayla. Get the Dactyls to fly to the Tyrano Lair. The main base
of the Reptiles. The party should consist of Marle, Chrono, and Ayla. Now get to
it.
- The Tyrano Lair is a huge level with a lot of doors and enemies. In particular
notice, the Volcano enemies should be hit first in a battle, so the other enemies
will get hit due to the Volcano's shot. In other words, if you hit a Volcano, it'll
attack your enemies for you. And use Lightning for the Reptites and Dinosaurs in
order to weaken them. The rest is easy. The 2 bosses here are Nizbel II and the Black
Tyrano. Nizbel II is much tougher that his cousin. Hit him with Lightning and attack
him. When your damage starts to dimish, use Lightning again. When he releases his
Shock Charge, heal using magic and then continue. He has about 4,000 H.P., so keep
attacking. Heal and then fight the Black Tyrano and Azyla. Azyla should be killed
first, using Lightning. Then target Tyrano with all your most powerful attacks.
This guide will be continued later. For now, this should do.
